Father's Day cards

Crackle background stamp, spritzed marker, made flag wrapped in twine, stamped sentiment, used Big Shot to cut it out, cut out sentiment in darker ink.

Used the Big Shot to emboss the lines, created a boy out of ribbon, stamped sentiment and cut out.

Used color spritzer tool and a marker on background, cut out multiple flags out of cardstock, stamped image, cut out, used crop-o-dile for eyelets and twine.

Used patterned paper to make corners and as background, sanded paper. Stamped sentiment on paper then used punch on bottom, added wrapped wire to side for a 'masculine' touch.

"King of the day" card

All this, out of my crafty junk drawer?! You betcha!! Went for the playing card first, then went digging for red stuff to accent it with. I came across this great page in a book, put that away for later use ;) but decided to use his sister page as a background, inked, of course.

A friend of mine needed a birthday card for her brother and masculine stuff is almost never in my stash. Thanks for inspiring me to create today, Ruth!

Home Made Smash Book

At one of our last M.O.P.S. meetings, the craft was "Smash Books".

I teach the class using the books from K & Company at my local Michael's store, but honestly I prefer this kind.
This is what I call the "Cram-What-You-Can Book"

Seriously. To save money on scrapbooks, make your own. Head to the craft store to get some rings (like $3 for 6, I think) and then just use scraps!

I decided to go for texture. I got canvas pieces, rope, twine, netting, magazine paper, cardstock, envelopes, cardboard... anything that I thought might not get used, I used. A lot of the pages are made with 12x12 paper cut into fourths (so 6x6 squares) and glued to each other. I only glued 3 sides though, make every page a pocket! Give me glue, a paper trimmer, a pile of junk mail and a Crop-o-dile, I'll give you a Smash Book!

This has been in the works for months now, I wanted to get as much in it as possible before giving to hubby for Father's Day. I got all the ticket stubs from our outings (Plays, Seahawks & Mariners games, Museum trips, etc), included family pictures of us & our parents, and found miscellaneous stuff that I know he loves. I found a great vintage koala bear postcard at a garage sale for next to nothing, also found some vintage Father's Day cards that just happened to say the perfect things :)

This is one of several cards that were made this year for the guys in my life who are great fathers.

And to my dad, Bob, you are an incredible man. You stepped up to the plate when it wasn't necessary, but I needed it, and you filled a hole (a rather large hole). I don't know who I would be without you having made such a HUGE impression on my life, and I wouldn't want to know either. You are a wonderful husband to my mother and showed me what a good guy should be. You have been, and always will be, the line in which I compare other men. I have found an awesome man of God to be my husband, and I am so lucky that he possesses similar qualities of yours.
I just want you to know, I love you.

outta this world!

My brother in law has been giving me such a hard time about some lights that we saw one night a few weeks ago. I decided that his birthday card should be justly themed =)

I stamped the UFO in stazon black onto white cardstock, then colored it with watercolor pencils. Using my blender pen, I finished off the coloring.

It needed some texture, but for me that usually comes in the form of ribbon and/or flowers. Let's just say this guy, is not a girly guy. I had to think of something else, the texture plate with my cuttlebug did the trick.

The eyelets are the final touch. Happy birthday!!

EMPTY YOUR SCRAP PILE!! super easy cards. i got the idea from a card i saw made by layering ribbons. i decided to use paper instead. i dug through my scrap drawer & pulled out the colors i liked together and cut one edge with a scallop border punch. ink distressed them all and there we have it! this was made for my fantastic mr. he is the kind of guy who loves to get dressed up and collects ties. he is also the kind of guy who adopts his wife's kids from a previous marriage to make sure they have the best father figure around & that they always know that he considers them "his" kids. the kind of guy women dream of meeting. yep, he's a pretty fantastic guy. know what else he is? MINE. i made my own patterned paper (background) by stamping ties in a pattern on white cardstock. these stamps are 2-step stamps. that means the outline is one image & the fill in is the other. for the main image of the tie, i stamped just the outline onto patterned paper & cut it out. the rest of it is layered & ink distressed. to all the fathers out there, happy day to you! Another super simple card. The great thing is, just change the color scheme for a feminine card. Tag (SU) is stamped in brown, used twine to keep it with the thick chocolate ribbon. Manly birthday

This is for my father-in-laws birthday. Stamped truck (SU) in stazon black on white cardstock. Lightly colored in with watercolor pencils (SU) then used watercolor brush to blend. After dry, I cut it out. Layered truck on scallop circle (nestabilities used with my cuttlebug) which was pierced around the edges. Partner a truck with some manly patterned paper and ink distressing and you've got a great card for that special man in your life! Sent from Yahoo! Mail on Android

2nd quilt

Well here's quilt #2. I picked up this fabric at the same time a the first, it just didn't fit in with the first and there was so much if it, I made a whole other quilt. The inside is a cut to fit fleece blanket and the backing is a brown sheet, both from goodwill. This one us much smaller than the first, it'll be a great one for him to lay on the floor with or use in his play pen. Sent from Yahoo! Mail on Android

First quilt

Yeah! I borrowed a friends sewing machine and got a lesson on how to use it. I scoured the clearance bin at walmart for fabric pieces. I went to the goodwill for the back piece (a yellow striped sheet) and for the inside (a fleece blanket cut to size). Over all, I think I paid less than $12 for everything. My sister-in-law just moved here from Alaska and when she saw I was learning to sew, gave me her sewing machine. She had only used it once! So I've made him another quilt (will post pics soon), and got some fabric and payed to try to make the girls sundresses. We'll side how those go.... I'm a bit scared. Sent from Yahoo! Little Mr.'s bedroom

Only 10 more weeks till he's due! Hubby and I are going with a green & brown color scheme (could you tell?), and this is one side of his nursery. Hubby drew the tree on with pencil and we all helped paint it. It was nice to have the girls help with his room too. I've tried my hand at sewing lately, I've made my little guy two quilts! I think the most challenging thing for me to create is anything masculine. I made this for my nephews 12th birthday.
It turned out ok, better than I thought it would. Anything's possible with good paper.
